To clarify – there has been some confusion as to whether this event is happening at Tabac, the Bar in the CBD, or TAPAC – The Auckland Performing Arts Centre in Western Springs. They sound the same but they’re very different venues, so please make sure you’re heading to the right one! The Bar is on Mills Lane, parallel to Queen st, very close to Downtown.
Next Saturday 9th of October, at Tabac bar on Mills Lane in the Auckland CBD, the winning pieces from this competition – being decided upon right now by our judges will be on display. There will be performances throughout the evening, from some of the most talented people i have ever met - musicians, actors, circus performers and other artists. Doors will open at 730pm, and doorcharge is $15.
Those pieces that have been donated by the artists to be auctioned for charity will also be on display, and be sold off during the night in a silent auction (which i will add details on once i have them). The pieces that sell will be able to donate the money raised to the pain charity of their choice – the options are listed on this website, but artists are able to nominate specifc charities or people for consideration as they wish. However all money will go to helping those struggling with pain conditions or their carers.
Tabac bar is a gorgeous space, wonderfully comfortable and the staff are brilliant as well, so the night will be an opportunity to get together, finally meet those you’ve been talking to online all month and enjoy the end results of this extremely intense experience, along with the live performances happening through the night.
I dont want to give too much away about the performances, but our performers include the stunning Plum Green, up and coming singer/songwriter with one of the smoothest voices i’ve heard in a while; Eve Gordon of the dust palace who has agreed to do an incredibly challenging sounding piece which i hope she survives! She has taught, concieved, directed, produced and starred in more productions than i can count, does more than any single person i know, and still manages to be a wonderful human being at the same time
Other performers include Hunter, a brilliant jazz musician, Sarah Houbolt and Carlene Newall, performing yet more circus acts; Grae Burton, doing i dont know what, and the whole will be Emcee’d by Callum Stembridge, who has been fantastic in pulling it all together while i’ve been distracted by the competition.
