Dercum’s Disease, also known as DD, is one of the worlds rarest diseases. People with DD get benign tumors that can grow all over their body in the adipose layer (fat layer) which are called lipoma/ angio-lipoma. In a normal person lipoma don’t hurt but in DD they cause a lot of pain. People afflicted with DD can have literally thousands of tumors all over their body.
The disease also entails fatigue, swelling of joints and the body in general, bad lymphatic drainage, Brain fog/ aphasia and other neurological symptoms.
There are no medications to alleviate the pain, and surgery is not an option as it causes more tumor growth and more pain. As with many chronic pain diseases there are treatments which some find helpful but others do not, such as compression, but there is no consistent treatment for the management of DD, and no cure.
