LYRICS:
Esme
by Sam Wheeler 2011 (for Gran on her 84th birthday)
Wide open Fields,
and your running free,
your running free.
Dancing along the beach
with your feet,
ankle deep.
So just close your eyes,
and you can be,
there with me.
Only when you find,
Your piece of mind,
Then you’ll be free.
So just close your eyes,
and you can be,
there with me.
These Passing moments fade,
The hours and the days,
but it’s not real.
The world is there in you,
and you can see it too,
So you know just what to do.
So just close your eyes,
and you can be,
there with me.
So just close your eyes,
and you can be,
there with me.
So just close your eyes,
and you can be,
there with me.
Name of Artist: Sam Wheeler
Title of Piece: Esme
About the Piece: I wrote this song for my Gran. She is stuck in a rest home in a wheelchair and suffers from Arthritis and Rheumatism… and now delirium. She has a broken back and a busted knee. Her brother Bob who I took her to see before he died was also a chronic pain sufferer from arthritis his whole life. My mother also suffers from Arthritis and after a recent episode on anti-biotic she was prescribed which she is highly allergic too… she was bed ridden for two months with chronic arthritic pain.
The Metamorphosis happens when I sing this song… I see my Grandmother transformed into a young woman dancing along the beach free of her wheelchair, the rest home and all her pain.
I plan to shoot a video of this in her honour and hopefully one day she can go home and paint and be a happy artist again with all of those wild stories of her youth riding horses with her babies strapped to her on Great Barrier Island.
About the Artist: I’m a painter, sculpture, musician, film-maker and animator. have had Fibromyalgia now for ten years.
