Craig Ellis – “I Once Had A Headache”
Artist: Craig Ellis
Title of Piece: I Once Had A Headache
About the Piece: “I Once Had A Headache” tells the story of how unbelievably long one intense headache can last from a Traumatic Brain Injury. It is one side effect amongst many including massive fatigue, photo and phono sensitivity, limited concentration and depression, which Craig had to face on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis.
The work also highlights the major challenge living with an invisible injury in a very visual world.
About the Artist: Craig is a Grey Lynn artist. He sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury in 2007 riding his scooter to work when struck by a car. Craig’s work is a journey in paint. It tells a powerful story of frustration, despair, acceptance, hope and happiness.
His first stormy headache from the concussion lasted 9 months. It disappeared for a couple of days then returned for many more months.
Craig’s work is beautiful in its simplicity and consistent in its message. It provides valuable insight into how people live with a Traumatic Brain Injury.
