Clovis McEvoy – Collision

Artist: Clovis McEvoy

Name of Piece: Collision

About the Piece: This painting is dedicated to the memory of Tim Hooker-snell, a young man who took his own life. Tim didn’t suffer from physical pain but he suffered from mental anguish and isolation. To me this painting represents the many crushing layers of emotion, thoughts and random events that converge upon a person (represented by the solitary silver line in the centre). For the most part I would like to leave any interpretation of individual layers, colours and shapes up to the viewer. However I will say that I personally view the three central stripes as anger and action (represented by the red, yellow and black), the person (represented by the sliver) and despair (represented by the black and blue). At one point along the length of bright silver, the anger and the despair break through, meeting each other and resulting in the tragic actions of a person filled with despair and driven by the need to act.

About the Artist: I’m an amateur painter, and usually create as a release of pent up emotion, be it positive or negative. I suffer from Intracranial Hypotention, a condition that causes me to lose cerebral fluid whenever I’m upright. The lack of this fluid causes what are known as low pressure headaches, some of the most painful headaches a person can get. I’ve dealt with this everyday for the last 12 or so years.
