Alexandria Leonard – Metamorphosis
Artist: Alexandria Leonard
Title of Piece: Metamorphosis
About the Piece: Pain changes you; for better or worse. One can discover new paths of life when others are taken away. The caged, wingless bird discovers new ways to fly free when her wings have been cut off; life can breathe anew through great love and great pain. Metamorphosis is a struggle, but change itself can be painful, and can be a struggle.
About the Artist: I’ve been painting, sketching, creating music and knitting for years; art in any and every form has become an outlet for me since my car accident in 2003 left me with a broken back and broken legs, subsequently leading to chronic pain. Creating art is both an outlet and a reminder of my pain as the concentration and stillness needed to make my art can cause more pain – but it is worth it. Growth cannot happen without struggle.

Good effort. Wish you good luck. Thank you

If those tears are turning into hearts THEN butterflys WOW,this peice is an almost Nietzsche like commentary on the poetical and rhetorical methods of expression in all modern art today…..I mean step aside Salvador Dali.

That’s a great message you’re sending out there, Alex.
I see a lot of patients at work in great physical pain.
I think this will be an inspiration for them to realize that although chronic pain can be physically limiting but it does not have to limit their lives!
It’s a struggle but a choice they can make, and it seems that the metamorphosis was worth it for you.
Great job Alex.

Alex, we chanel pain in many ways, constructively and unfortunately also distructively. You have really expressed your pain in such a positive way that so fits who you are. Very beautiful. Sad yet still positive and up-lifting.
